My skillz at writing poetry are virtually non-existent, and I really only attempted any during the High School Angst Years, to instantly disastrous results. Too often I find poetry overly dramatic and generally wankity, with a few notable and probably cliche authors being the exception. Haiku, however, are a neat little package of conciseness, and I’m pretty sure you’d have to be dead inside not to find them delightful (possibly a biased opinion).
Thus, I vow to post an original haiku on a quasi-regular basis. Because (regrettably) I am not a master of the Japanese language, I will be writing in the bastardized English style, with a 7-5-7 syllable pattern (or, if I’m feeling adventerous, 3-5-3!). I also won’t be following traditional rules regarding subject matter. I’m hoping this highly structured method of posting will also inspire blatherings/insights/debates/diatribes, as I am bound to write about music, art, books, film, and any other new items that cross my desk.
